  • Is ASB an accredited school / What accreditation does ASB have?
    Yes, the diploma issued by ASB is internationally-accredited by Cognia.
  • What nationalities are your teachers?
    Our teachers come from various countries, but all are highly qualified and credentialed based on US standards. All teachers are at a C1 level of English and all teachers of English are native or near-native speakers.
  • When can I visit the school?
    The school premises are only available for a visit after school, between the hours of 2:30 to 4:00, and only by appointment. To book an appointment, please visit the Appointments page here.

  • Are there places to eat around the school?
    Yes. There are several places from which students can buy food.
  • When does registration at ASB start?
    We are open for enrollment starting the month of February. We work on a first-come-first-serve basis. Students are encouraged to register by no later than August 15th.
  • How do I apply?
    Visit our online application here. You will be asked to upload some documents, so please be sure to have all official documents translated into English.
  • How do I register/enroll?
    After you complete our online application form and pay the one-time, non-refundable registration fee of €150, we will send you a confirmation, the ASB handbook, a draft contract, and an invoice about the costs and payment intructions. We may need to meet with your child at this point. After your fees your paid, your child will be considered fully registered.
  • Can we enroll our child in the middle of the year?
    Our program consists of two semesters. The first semester finishes at the end of February. To enroll only in one of the semesters, the cost is €5000. If you enroll in the second semester only then decide to continue, you will just have to pay the difference of €1900 to continue.
  • Do I need to be a Bulgarian citizen to register for your school?
    No. We accept students of any nationality. We only require that you are lawfully residing in Bulgaria.
  • Can you help me receive an acceptance letter so that I can apply for a Visa?
    Sure. The fee for international students that require sponsorship and a letter of acceptance is €9000. Once the fee is paid in full, we will issue you a letter of acceptance that you can use to apply for a visa. ASB is not responsible nor can assist with any immigration process. All fees paid are refundable if an approval is not received, minus any administrative fees incurred.
  • At what grades/age do you accept students?
    We offer grades 1 to 12. We can accept students as early as 5 years of age in first grade, but they must be able to read and write. If they do not, they will be required to attend summer school or an ESL course after school hours, both of which at an additional cost.

  • What happens if my child has completed a few years of high school already?
    In that case, we will award your child credit for the completed courses and they will only need to take the subjects that remain.
  • Can I tour the school?

  • What is the minimum level of English required for students?
    We require a B1 level of English and if not, students must enroll in our ESL (English as a second language) course.
  • What is the hybrid program?
    It is a program in which students enroll with ASB for only the subjects that they need to satisfy the US Diploma requirements and which they do not take in their regular education. These subjects are: English Literature 1, 2, 3, and 4, US History, US Government, US Economics, and one general education course. The courses can be taken every summer with a group or completed alone by the student at their own pace. Students register for two courses at a time and have a year to finish them. Once all courses are completed and the necessary courses from the student’s regular school are completed (and transferred into our program), students will be eligible to receive an internationally-accredited US Diploma (usually at the end of 12th grade).
  • What subjects do students study in the hybrid program?
    English Literature 1, 2, 3, and 4, US History, US Government, US Economics, and one general education course.
  • How long does the hybrid program take?
    The courses can be taken every summer with a group or completed alone by the student at their own pace. Students register for two courses at a time and have a year to finish them.
  • When does the hybrid program start?
    The hybrid program starts the first week of July and finishes on September 15th.
  • Can students complete they hybrid program at their own pace?
    Absolutely. The entire program can be completed at the student’s own pace, but they can only receive a diploma after they have completed the remaining required courses through their regular school.
  • How old and at what age can students be accepted in the hybrid program?
    Students must have at least completed 7th grade in order to start the hybrid program.
  • What is your Covid-19 policy?

  • Are students allowed to use their phones?
    No. We have a no-phone policy. Students in elementary and middle school have to hand in their phone at the beginning of the school day, and will collect them on their way out of school. High school students have to store their phone away and can only use them during their lunch hour. Absolutely no phones are allowed in class.
  • Do you require students to wear a uniform?
    Yes, we have specific requirements. We will send you a student handbook when you enroll and all details about the dress code and school unform are described within it.
  • What is the dress code?

  • What supplies will my child need?
    We will send you a list along with the schedule a week before the first day of school.
  • What happens if my child is not well?
    It is always best to let your child stay home to recover. Absences of more than one day can only be excused with a doctor’s note. This is especially important if your child has a fever. Three unexcused absences will cause a strike. Read more about our Strike System in the Parent-Student Handbook.
  • Are students allowed to be absent for a long period of time?

  • Are students allowed out of the school premises?
    High school students are allowed to leave the school premises unattended. Elementary and middle school students can only leave the school premises attended by a teacher.   • What subjects are covered in your program?
    For high school, students must complete the below list of courses (24 credits) over 4 years (9th to 12th grade), at 6 credits per year. English 1-4 Algebra 1-2, Geometry, Statistics or Pre-Calculus, Calculus or Math for College. Biology, Chemistry, Physics. World History, US History, US Government, US Economics. Physical Fitness. Health Education. Music Appreciation or Art History. 8 elective general-education courses.
  • What subjects do students in middle and elementary school take?
    Students in elementary and middle school take four core subjects (Math, Science, English Language Arts, Social Science) and two electives (Art and Physical Education (PE)).
  • Do you offer PE (Physical Education) classes?
    Yes, our students participate in daily PE activities in and out of the school campus, weather permitting.
  • What are advanced Placement (AP) courses?
    AP courses are university-level courses that students can take in 11th or 12th grades (with a teacher recommendation), and that help improve the student’s chances of attending very prestigious universities such as Harvard, MIT, and Cambridge. Students register for the courses with ASB, register with Collegeboard for the test in November, and sit for the test in May. Our partner AP testing center is located in Sofia, Bulgaria. Upon passing, students receive certificates that they will use to apply to top universities along with their US diplomas. The courses are then accepted for credit at universities; not only improving the chance of acceptance but also allowing students to save time and money.   • What do students do for social activities?
    We offer students the opportunity to sign up for various social clubs. Some are all-year and some are shorter in length. We also take students on monthly field trips. Some are educational and some are just for fun and socializing. All costs for field trips will be collected a week ahead of time.
  • When does school start?
    We always start with orientation days on the last three days of September.
  • What are the elementry school hours?
    Elementary school starts at 9:00 am and finishes at 1:30. The program fee covers after-school care from 1:30 to 4:30.
  • What are the middle school hours?
    Middle school starts at 9:00 and finishes at 2:00.
  • What are the high school hours?
    High school starts at 9:00 and finishes at 2:20.
  • Do students get a lunch hour?
    Yes, students are given 40 minutes for lunch.
  • What are the school and important dates?
    Our registration period is open all year, and is on a first-come-first-served basis. The second semester starts on March 1st. The last day of School is June 30. The last two weeks of June are reserved for students to catch up on late work that needs to be graded. All grading is finalized at the end of June. Extension fees must be paid to extend work beyond the June 30th date. July 14th is the deadline to register without late fees, and is the last day to request a refund for fees paid. Summer school starts the first week of July and continues until September 15th. The new academic year starts the last week of September. For other important dates, please refer to the Parent-Student Handbook or our online calendar here. We keep our calendar up to date, so please be sure to refer to it often. All holidays/vacations will be posted by September 1st.
  • When do we receive the school schedule?
    You will be sent the school schedule a week before the first day of school.
  • What is the cost of studying at ASB?
    The cost is €7900 per year for the full program for grades 8 - 12, and €6900 for grades 1 - 7, which covers 6 subjects. There is also a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of €150 that is due upon registering. The high-school tuition fee does NOT include AP courses, which cost €1500 per course. e-textbooks are included in the tuition fee. There is an additional cost associated with printing textbooks for those who request them. All field trips are an additional cost. We organize field trips for students monthly. Food is not included in the tuition fee. Transportation is not provided. There are additional costs for ordering the unifrom, which are settled directly with the uniform shop. All school supplies must be provided by the parents. All art supplies will be included in the tuition fee, but a list of additional items will be provided a week before school and will need to be purchased for personal use by the student. The cost for the hybrid program is €2600 for two subjects and €1300 for one subject. There are 8 subjects required. Once the 8 subjects are completed alongside the student’s regular program, the student will be eligible to receive an internationally-accredited diploma. The cost for additional classes not offered on site is €1300. The cost for summer courses which last from July to September (48 total hours) is €1300 The cost for the summer school program for grades 1-8 is €1700 for the full half-day program (9:00-1:00), from July to September, with the first week of August off. The cost per month for the full-day program is €800. The cost for Advanced Placement courses (university-level courses) is €1500. Exam fees are not included in this cost and are payable directly to the examination institution. The cost for the graduation gala for graduating students is €150 and covers the cost for the graduate and two guests. Costs for additional guests will be announced in June. There are additional €150 cost associated with getting documents apostilled. An additional €100 is charged as a deposit for the graudation gown.
  • Do you offer payment plans?
    We do not offer payment plans. For continuing students: Continuing students must pay a €1000 deposit by May 15 and the remainder of their tuition fee by June 15. If these deadlines are missed, parents will have to re-register their students. For new students: Upon completing the application to enroll at ASB, you will need to pay a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of €150. This fee must be paid in cash via easy pay, or via an online bank transfer. Before the month of July, you will be invoiced for a €1000 deposit that is refundable by July 14th with a written request. This fee ensures that a place is reserved for your child. After the month of July, you will be invoiced for the entire tuition fee. The entire tuition fee is due by July 14th (less any deposit that was paid before July), but must be paid before September 15th. A late fee of €100 will be applied every month that the tuition fee is not paid before the month of September. No fees are refunded after July 14th.
  • Can I get my money back if I have changed my mind?
    If you change your mind or have a change of plans, you must request a refund in writing by July 14th. All fees, with the exception of the €150 registration fee will be refunded. All fees paid are non-refundable after July 14th.
